Services Rendered:

  • Complete overhaul of print and web visual style (before + after), saving the program $35,000 in development costs
  • Added functionality included new mailing list system, blog engine, Google Apps integration, and creation of an idea exchange/opportunity system to enhance student-alumni relations
  • Launched initiative to digitize 10 years worth of recorded events for online distribution
  • Worked with Brown University Public Affairs & University Relations office to make the program the first provider of content on the Brown University iTunesU channel
  • Established a strong presence on multiple social networking sites and targeted email list of students, professors, donors, and alumni
  • Consolodated hundreds of contacts from dated databases and spreadsheets into HighRise CRM

Empirical Results:

  • Record-breaking 81% increase in event attendance over prevous year (1,123 attendees, roughly 20% of student population)
  • Over 11,000 online event views
  • $13,000 in funds raised

Brown University Online Course Search & Registration Interface Overhaul

May, 2007

  • Led small development team to do a rapid prototype and overhaul of a new online course search and registration interface (part of the Sungard Banner system - see before + after) in one week based on principles of cognitive science and implemented using AJAX
  • Deliverables included two fully operating prototype pages (search page and search results page) and 31-page full color report (available upon request) detailing improvements in information architecture, flow of control, aesthetic appeal, and the effects of the system rollout on a campus reluctant to adopt new technology
  • Worked with Sungard consultants and the Brown University Division of Computing + Information Services (CIS) to ensure compatibility with the existing backend, passed off deliverables to CIS in August, 2007 to implement in their next test and adjust cycle of the course registration module
  • Performed in-depth usability testing on existing and prototyped design ensuring improved usability
